Pigeons need little space and little feed: 10 pairs fit in a loft of about 2 × 3 m with a small flight, and an adult eats only 35–50 g of grain a day.
A pair can raise a new round of young about every 6–8 weeks, and good breeders produce for 6–8 years. Hobby keepers, families, schools, hotels and resorts buy fancy pairs, and pigeon droppings make excellent garden fertiliser.
