Ayrshire

Hardy  |  Good milk yield

A medium-sized, red-brown and white dairy cow, strong on its legs with a well-shaped udder. Known for hardiness: it copes well with less perfect conditions and still gives a good yield.

  • About 15 - 25 litres a day with good feeding
  • Hardy and strong on its legs
  • Good udder shape
  • A little more butterfat than Friesian milk

Friesian

High milk production

The large black and white Friesian gives the most milk of any breed when it gets plenty of good fodder, dairy meal, minerals and water and a clean, comfortable house.

  • About 20 - 35 litres a day with good feeding
  • Highest milk production
  • Needs the best feeding and housing
  • Popular across the Kenyan highlands
